Abstract
Direct sequence spread spectrum is one candidate to be used as a radio access technique for a global personal telecommunication system. For such an application a high spectral efficiency is required. The decorrelation receiver has been proposed to increase the capacity of spread spectrum systems and to overcome the near-far problem. The improvement of the signal to interference ratio is achieved at the expense of some noise enhancement. This paper investigates the degree of the noise enhancement and concludes that for reasonable values of the crosscorrelation values the loss is well below 3 dB
