Some of the leading applications of spread spectrum techniques in America are briefly described. Outstanding problems with some of these applications are highlighted. This leads to a description of a very few of the variety of techniques being applied to solve these problems. We first consider communications applications and techniques and then proceed to navigation applications and techniques
