Abstract :
From Maxwell´s equations, using Fourier expansion, separation of variables, spatial harmonic balance and Green´s functions, closed-form expressions are found for the longitudinal electric and magnetic fields, for the two orthogonally polarized states in a birefringent step-index single-mode fiber. Propagation constants and linear polarization ratios of the transverse fields can then calculated, up to an arbitrarily high accuracy
