Abstract :
The requirements of future mobile radio systems go far beyond what is provided by presently deployed or currently introduced systems, especially with respect to services and service bit rates. We introduce a wideband testbed system developed by Ericsson. The air interface concept and the proposed generic transmission scheme on the physical layer permit an easy adaptation to particular service requirements and make it easy to introduce new services to the system. The flexibility of the air interface concept is maintained by the hardware architecture of the Ericsson wideband testbed. Fixed and variable-rate speech and data services are demonstrated. Extensive laboratory and field trials are being carried out to gain experience with the operation of wideband CDMA systems, to evaluate its performance, and to assess its suitability for new services. This paper provides an overview on the system concept and the testbed architecture. Performance results from first laboratory trials are reported
