Abstract :
Optical multiple-access systems using code-division multiple-access (CDMA) technique are investigated. The overall system performance is calculated. Quadratic congruential codes are considered. A theoretical analysis of the output current distribution of optical receivers with avalanche photodetectors is developed. The exact mean and variance of the output statistic are derived for the Gaussian approximation. The effect of multiple-user interference, shot noise, and thermal noise are all considered. The system capacity is illustrated by the number of allowed users for fixed bit error rate and received signal power
