Abstract :
Optical coatings have applications in several fields such as ophthalmics, bulk precision optics, building, lasers, and the automobile and robot industry. A great amount of effort has been devoted to deposit optical coatings on plastic substrates which are lighter, more resistant to hits and more practical than glasses. In particular, antireflection (AR) filters in the visible range are widely used especially in ophthalmics. The use of plastics as substrates involves a lot of technological problems in the coating production: plastics have a soft surface and are easily damaged by abrasion and heat. In this work, we deposited AR coatings by ion assisted deposition (IAD) on Allil-diglycol-polycarbonate (CR39) and glass (BK7) substrates. The multilayers were made of SiO2/ZrO2 stacks. The optical performance and the mechanical properties of the coatings were measured and a great improvement was observed by using ion assistance
