Abstract :
This paper presents a new configuration for wind energy conversion system using Permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG-based WECS) via Vienna rectifier and three phase four switch inverter (B4). The motivation of this work is the need for a low power cost effective topology for PMSG-based WECS. In this PM WECS, Vienna rectifier is used as generator-side converter and B4 inverter is employed as grid-side converter of WECS. This configuration has several advantageous compared to conventional back to back inverter such as low cost, high reliability and simple control system, mainly because the number of active semiconductors in B4 is reduced and there is no shoot through possibility in Vienna rectifier. In this paper, the effect of Vienna rectifier and B4 inverter on WECS has been studied. Simulation results validate the performance of the proposed topology.
