Abstract :
Contingency Analysis is one of the most important aspect of Power System Security Analysis. This paper presents a fast and precise method of contingency ranking for effective power system security analysis. The method proposed in this research work takes due consideration of both apparent power overloading and voltage violations at the same time. A comparative analysis of previous methods is also presented in this paper. The proposed method has been applied to a 10 bus benchmark power system and results are verified with actual number of violations in each contingency. The proposed technique is based on realistic approach taking practical situations into account. Besides taking real situations into consideration the proposed method is fast enough to be considered for on-line security analysis.
