Abstract :
The theory, development, and evaluation of STARPAK is presented. STAR is a package of Standard Fortran subroutines designed to simulate the performance of an arbitrary array configuration of sensors in a variety of signal-noise environments. Either real frequency domain data may be input or the user may define control signal-noise parameters to generate purely simulated data. STAR will output random samples having identical second order statistics. Output may be used to evaluate array configuration types and errors, or to evaluate beamforming algorithms. Confidence limits are established for the simulated output. Conventional and fast, reliable versions of optimal and stochastic descent beamforming algorithms are presented to illustrate the simulation.
