Abstract
Insulators in coastal substations are attacked by salty wind from the seashore and this causes flashover and power failures. Hence, the polluted insulators are washed using copious pure water before a flashover can occur. In this paper, a method of automatic decision making of timing for the insulator washing is proposed. The prediction of the amount of pollution deposit was used for the automatic decision making and an event matching model (EMM) was also proposed for the prediction. The proposed automatic decision making by EMM was evaluated by the actual data of a coastal substation in Japan and showed satisfactory results
