  • Abstract
    We describe a low noise mm-wave source and coherent heterodyne detection system designed to operate at both 94 GHz and 188 GHz for both CW and pulsed ESR. The source maintains phase coherence throughout, and has intrinsic bandwidths which allows ns pulse ESR spectrometry to be performed. The multiplied source can produce +23 dBm at 94 GHz and has been designed to act as an input to a 1 kW amplifier for high power pulsed ESR. By using a DRO based signal source a 30 dB improvement in the spectrometer noise floor over a Gunn based source has been measured.
