Abstract :
The effect of the surface structure for the transmission property of the metal hole arrays were investigated. We observed that the transmission peak frequency changes drastically with increasing the thickness of the dielectric layer which is attached to the metal surface. This result indicates the important role of the surface plasmon-polaritons for the transmission property of the metal hole array. In addition, we measured transmission spectra of the metal hole array, the diameter of which is much smaller than the wavelength of the THz wave. By optimizing the surface structure of the metal hole array for the excitation of the surface plasmon-polaritons, the strong enhancement of the transmission of the terahertz wave was obtained.
