Abstract :
The aim of ICARE system (image cartography expert) may be understood as rectifying misclassifications of usual classifiers which are known to give poor results for satellite imagery. An interesting repercussion of this system is its ability to solve problems where utilized data for reasoning is stored in a geographic information system and which solution may be expressed by mean of a priority map. It works in a two step process consisting of a first one of usual classification followed by a second one consisting in previous classification improvement. The authors have chosen this approach because it permits one to integrate in a flexible way expert knowledge and know-how in satellite image interpretation
