  • Abstract
Strategies and efforts for developing micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) technologies within the framework of telecommunication systems and services are described. There are two categories of MEMS applications in telecommunications. The first is in the construction, maintenance and operation of telecommunication infrastructure equipment. The second is in input/output devices, namely sensors and actuators, used in telecommunication systems, for example the telephones. The author believes MEMS technologies combined with telecommunication systems will contribute to preserving the global environment, supporting an increasingly aged society, enhancing the public welfare, and opening new business opportunities
