Abstract :
This paper presents the results of the definition and prototyping of a terrestrial interactive system based on the DVB-T (digital video broadcasting terrestrial) standard for the broadcast channel (downstream) and the novel synchronous frequency division multiple access (SFDMA) technique for the return channel (upstream). The system has been conceived and implemented in the framework of the European ACTS iTTi project. The approach is to transmit bursts of low bit rate data from domestic DVB-T receivers back to the broadcaster within the UHF band. System specification, complete hardware prototyping and complexity estimation in view of VLSI implementation of the receiver has been carried out within the project.
