Abstract
The paper describes power management in a typical wireless base station. Two methods, traditional and a new approach, for powering a cellular base station are described. Test data for variations in battery backup time, conversion efficiency and power characteristics for the traditional and new approach are provided. The paper discusses the new approach to powering a wireless base station with a goal of achieving higher efficiency, higher reliability, lower cost and improved system performance
