Abstract :
New first-order partial differential equation (PDE) representations for systems described by higher order PDEs are proposed. Tools for analysis of lumped-distributed systems are suggested: Mikusi??ski´s operational calculus and the 2-D Laplace transform. Next, system equivalence for lumped-distributed systems is defined and discussed. Finally, modal controllability and observability are introduced and compared with the analogous notions for the proper 2-D systems.
