Abstract :
This paper examines the effect of long motor cables and short switching times on inverter-fed induction motor drives. In particular, a case where a single inverter drives multiple induction motors is investigated. Computer models based on cable transmission theory are used to simulate voltage reflections. Analyses are carried out to find the relationship between the inverter switching times, the length of cables and the motor terminal voltage. It is found that for certain applications, filters or chokes must be employed in order to keep the overvoltage level under a certain limit. Some simulation results are verified by experimental data
