Abstract :
The performance of matrix converters is strictly related to the modulation technique adopted to control the state of the switches. The best results are obtained by means of the space vector modulation technique, which allows the full control of output voltages and input power factor. It can be also verified that this technique achieves the highest voltage transfer ratio and an increase of the input current quality. In this paper the most common switching strategies for space vector modulation are analyzed, and their effects on the line current distortion are compared. The analysis demonstrates that a suitable distribution of the zero voltage vectors within the switching pattern can sensibly reduce the rms value of the line current ripple. Numerical results are given to confirm the validity of the proposed approach.
