  • Abstract
In the field of factory automation, transportation systems are demanded for labor reduction in large-scale factories. Such systems are needed for high speed operation and large capacity applications. The linear synchronous motor (LSM) is suitable for long-stroke transportation systems, because the motor is able to produce large thrust force and is applicable to high speed operation. The stator of LSMs is usually arranged continuously. Here, the authors propose a new system, which has the primary of the LSM discontinuously located at the points necessary for acceleration and deceleration. This paper reports the basic concepts of this discontinuous arrangement, the concept of the total system and the characteristics of the pull velocity in control experiments
