Abstract :
Following the concept of a critical conduction parameter for single-phase PFC circuits, a critical conduction parameter K is derived for a three-phase modular power conversion system. With this parameter (K), the optimum choice for the output filter can be determined to achieve the highest power factor of the system. The voltage conversion ratio required to achieve high power factor to fulfil the harmonic requirements is also derived. By operating the modular power converter system in the discontinuous output current mode, the input current distortion can be reduced and the modular system can achieve high power factor. Both simulations and experimental results from a 1.5 kW prototype using full bridge converter modules have confirmed the analysis
