Abstract :
A method is given which determines the optimal manoeuvre of the own ship if only noise corrupted passive sonar measurements of the target are available. The manoeuvre is optimal in the sense, that, within a given time interval, the accuracy with which the position of the target can be reconstructed is as large as possible. Some results are given. A purpose of this research is to make - off line - a databank of recommended manoeuvres.
