Abstract :
A new suboptimal modulation technique which combines the advantages of both the symmetrical space vector modulation (SVM) and harmonic elimination universal SVM (HEUSVM) techniques is presented. For minimized total harmonic distortion (THD) applications, the symmetrical SVM is selected for modulation index less than a certain threshold value; otherwise, the HEUSVM technique is used. The smooth transition between the two SVM techniques has been experimentally verified. For high switching frequency applications, the HEUSVM technique is recommended. In comparison with existing suboptimal SVM techniques, the new suboptimal technique requires less calculation and yields comparable performance based on the measures of THD and fundamental voltage errors. Experimental and simulation results are presented to confirm the theoretical analysis
