Abstract :
Clinical Engineering in France started in the 70´s. Today, about 200 Clinical Engineers are employed in public hospitals with non homogeneous organizations. This profession, which has answered mainly at the beginning to maintenance problems, evolved slowly towards strategic investments management and purchase decision. Some other aspects of the function as quality control, medical technology assessment, education or applied research are also of importance.
