Abstract :
We have studied the interaction of a sheet electron beam with the, say, 2 MW Gaussian RF beam produced by a conventional (cylindrical or coaxial) gyrotron. Such field amplitude is found to be adequate, for the interaction to start immediately at the large-signal nonlinear regime, typical of high efficiency. Treating, as an initial approach, the beam electrons as test particles, the application of energy conservation indicates, that a substantial amplification of the RF power could be expected.
