  • Abstract
Modern spectrum analysis has been recently applied to various biomedical signal processing. One of the widely used bioelectrical signals which is called electromyogram (EMG) is treated in the paper. Surface EMG was measured from the left forearm flexor muscles of healthy subjects using two electrodes placed on the skin. Power spectrum estimates of EMG were obtained by maximum entropy method (MEM) and compared with the estimates by fast Fourier transform (FFT). Effects of increasing load to spectral characteristic changes were investigated. The results from both MEM and FFT indicated 1) low frequency increase 2) high frequency decay 3) total increase in amplitude. In the paper, spectral analysis of surface EMG signal is described with experimental examples.
