Abstract :
Telecommunication has stimulated and supported social and personal activities of human beings since its inception. Further advancement of worldwide information networks will provide a social infrastructure for a network-based industrial revolution. Rapid growth is predicted for the world-wide flow of personal information in the network-based society. The increase in flow of information over the Internet will be spurred by the increasing complexity of multimedia applications available, and will accordingly require multi-megabit network services. Large-capacity backbone networks and high-speed subscriber access will be essential in meeting the demand. Looking back on the progress of telecommunications technology, semiconductor technology has provided a fundamental and revolutionary basis for advanced network systems, and is expected to continue to play a major role in future progress. telecommunications.
