Abstract :
An effort has been made to determine how fast new services can be introduced and how the service programming capability will be brought into the hands of the service providers in the intelligent network. It is suggested that the answer to such questions can be found in a layered software structure, which will give switching systems the flexibility that the era of intelligent networks requires. This new structure makes it possible to implement a bona fide intelligent network platform, where service programs are unbundled from access and transport technologies. The new software structure also provides a more powerful service programming interface
