Abstract
The aim of this paper is to provide an analysis of two possible inter-segment handover schemes to be used in an combined GSM and mobile satellite PCN achieving integration at network level. The first is a modified GSM inter-MSC (mobile switching center) handover and the second a modified DECT (Digital European Cordless Telephone) handover algorithm. After introducing the chosen integration scenario the simulation assumptions and results for both algorithms in different propagation environments will the discussed. A conclusion for the usability of the two schemes dependent upon the level of integration chosen will be drawn. The paper concludes with a summary of the results and an outlook into the field of future integrated terrestrial and mobile satellite system solutions
