Abstract
Stormwater pump operation at the time of urban storms is so difficult that it depends on operators´ heuristics. For the operators, understanding of the current status is essential. However, current monitoring systems treating restricted areas by conventional numerical sensors, are insufficient. To support secure and reliable pump operation against urban floods, we have applied multimedia technologies to wide-area monitoring with vivid and fine-grained information. In this paper, we describe the features of the multimedia monitoring system for the stormwater pump operation, as follows: (1) wide-area monitoring, (2) automatic alarm using live videos, (3) prediction of inflow into pumping stations, and (4) multimedia playback
