Abstract :
Current limiting fuses are designed to control the available fault current in medium voltage power systems. The continuous current ratings of current limiting fuses have to be limited to certain maximum values so that the current limiting effect can be maintained. Numerous studies have been conducted and technologies created to achieve higher continuous ratings and at the same time still maintain the current limiting characteristics of the fuse. This paper provides a review and comparison of the current available technologies developed. Also, the interface requirement between the user/engineer and vendor are given so that these devices can be properly applied.<>
