Abstract
This paper present results of a study to support the development of a inch diameter fiber rope subjected to tension and lateral loads, as would be the case when the rope bends over sheaves, or supports a moving trolley along the rope. A new machine was developed and build for testing 1 inch diameter ropes subjected to 20,000 lbs tension and up to 10,000 lbs trolley load. From the limited test we found that wire ropes are start to be structurally damaged after about 1,000 machine cycles and fail at about 2,000 cycles
