Abstract
Active filters and compensators provide outstanding possibilities for harmonic compensation and enhancement of power and voltage quality. This paper describes the modelling of active filters and compensators for harmonics in the time domain. First, a detailed time domain model of a shunt active filter is created. Then, it is simplified without losing sight of fundamental dynamic behaviour and basic physical characteristics while significantly reducing simulation time. The scope of these simplifications is mentioned. The validity and application of the models is shown by an example.
