Abstract
Two new CMOS OEICs (optoelectronic integrated circuits) with integrated photodiodes for the application in DVD (digital versatile disc) systems and for optical data transmission are presented. Due to the integration of the photodiodes and the analog signal processing circuits on the same chip, smaller dimensions, better immunity against electromagnetic interference (EMI) and faster systems are achievable. Furthermore, a higher reliability is also obtained. For the integration of the PIN-photodiodes on epitaxial wafers in a twin-well CMOS process only one additional mask is needed. The integration of the N+/NWELL/PSUB-photodiodes in a self-aligned CMOS process can be realised without any process modifications. Measured results for the used photodiodes, the CMOS DVD OEIC and the high-speed CMOS fiber receiver at a wavelength of λ=638.3 nm are presented
