  • Abstract
The unlicensed industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) band at 2.4 GHz has gained increase attention recently due to high data rate communication systems developed to operate in this band. In this paper, the behavior of indoor radio propagation mechanisms has been presented at this band. Five various types of building materials have been used for this study. The electromagnetic properties of these materials have been previously measured at this band. A multi ray model is used to simulate the reflection coefficients for a smooth surface with a thickness which is not too large compared to the wavelength. A multi layer model is used to simulate the reflection coefficients for a partition consists of multi layers. The reflection coefficients for rough surfaces are also studied. The uniform theory of diffraction is applied to calculate the diffracted field of the corners in an indoor environment at this band. The effect of the dielectric constants on the mechanisms of reflection and diffraction are also presented.
