Abstract
Distance education is not a recent innovation in education, correspondence courses have been used for over 150 years, but new interactive technologies are forcing reconceptualization of the process of reaching at a distance. The opportunity for interaction between students and the teacher distinguishes modern distance education from broadcast media and text-based study. The addition of increased interaction through more powerful technology is forcing a reconceptualization of the techniques for instruction at a distance
