Abstract :
The issues involved in the application of capacitor banks to improve plant operations in a large paper manufacturing facility are discussed in this paper. An extensive investigation of reactive compensation of the electrical power system in the modern paper facility is the focus of the paper. The use of harmonic field test data, harmonic analysis and power flow analysis studies, and power system stability studies are discussed. The improvements in steady state contingency operations when an in-plant generator is lost are discussed. The paper discusses various aspects of the project starting with the on-site harmonic field tests and addresses issues such as the application of capacitors and harmonic filters at different voltage levels. The paper also discusses in-plant generator loading and transient stability issues.<>
