Abstract
Formulas for the pseudoinverse of a compact operator are applied to estimate scattering functions and to perform linear system identification from a finite set of noisy measurements. The result is a nonparametric estimator possessing several desirable features. This approach encompasses the Modified Discrete Fourier Transform of [3], and is applied herein to the important problem of closely spaced object resolution in radar/optical signal processing. An extended discussion appears in [8].
