Abstract :
Concurrent engineering (CE) is an important step in realizing CIMS process integration and is based on many effective techniques such as virtual manufacturing. A virtual machining environment-GMPS (General Machining Process Simulator), which can be used to replace test cutting by virtual machining, is presented. It supplies a powerful simulation method for CE to test the manufacturability of a designed part. The paper introduces its structure, including the NC code translator, material removal simulation, collision and interference checks, etc. Finally, an application example is presented to show the function of GMPS
