Abstract
The spectrogram displays the energy distribution in the signal as a function of both time and frequency. High performance phonetic labeling of spectrogram can be obtained without the use of higher level knowledge sources. This paper reports on an attempt to acquire a phonetic knowledge base about Arabic amphatic consonants in order to build an automatic speech recognition system for modern Arabic language. The acquisition of this knowledge base is done by analysing the spectrogram of these consonants in multiple context
