Abstract
In general, polarization-maintaining fibers can be classified as high birefringence fibers and single-polarization single-mode fibers. In this paper, attention is focused on the latter type. A number of refractive-index profiles are considered for designing these fibers. Dispersion characteristics are studied and the index profiles are optimized to obtain a zero dispersion and single-polarization mode at the operating wavelength
