Abstract
Through the installation of fiber to residential customers in the community of Heathrow, FL, Southern Bell, Northern Telecom, and BNR are working to evolve fiber loop technology for large-scale deployment. The system at Heathrow delivers POTS (plain old telephone service), ISDN (integrated services digital network), and video transport for CATV (cable television). It is pointed out that the design and operation of the system have influenced not only the technology and architecture of future systems but also provisioning methods, splicing techniques, and installation of the fiber-optic network interface at the customer´s premises
