Abstract
Stiff systems are plants with “slow” dynamics when compared to those for the actuators and controller that control the plant. Thus the controller has adequate capacity to intelligently process subtle system information and thereby derive real time control decisions with improved performance and/or simplified control. This kind of intelligent stiff system control is possible because modern digital controllers and algorithms can process information faster than the “mechanical” response of the plant
