Abstract
A new modulation and transmission scheme, Barker code position modulation (BCPM), is introduced. This scheme is suitable for use either in frequency bands where spectral spreading is obligatory (such as the ISM bands), or in cases when it might be desirable due to other considerations. Methods to efficiently decode BCPM signals in the presence of intersymbol interference are also described. These algorithms may also be applied to decoding a class of orthogonal and quasi-orthogonal signals, and can be used to construct optimal and suboptimal receiver structures for systems which use these signals to communicate over dispersive channels
