Abstract
A Preliminary research on the design of variable structure controllers for highly non linear plants such as missiles and other aerospace vehicles is presented. The synthesis is carried out by making use of the adaptive inverse model followlng control technique and hyperstability theory. With respect to the guidance and control of an air-to-air missile intercepting a highly maneuvrable target, the robustness and feasibility of this approach are shown along with the difficulties arising in assuming a simplified plant model and its consequent reduction in controllability.
