Abstract
Summary form only given: The embedded systems without applications could not have been imagined. This tutorial addresses the applications in two emerging areas: biomedical engineering and wearable health care and disaster prevention. The emphasis will be given on design principles of the low power systems, which embed FPGA, microprocessors, measurement and communication interfaces etc, for purposes of telemedicine, homecare, environmental protection, civil protection, antiterrorism etc. Several case studies resulted from various EU, national, industrial and NATO projects will be demonstrated and discussed.
