Abstract
Platelet response to surface modified (SMA) Cobe Duo membrane oxygenators was evaluated in a pig model of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) by gamma scintigraphic imaging and platelet impedance aggregometry (PIA). Comparisons of platelet deposition, blood pool platelet counts and platelet aggregation were made between SMA coated CPB circuits and uncoated circuits. The SMA-coated oxygenators exhibited decreases in foreign surface induced platelet aggregation and platelet deposition
