Abstract
Target classification using sensors like electronic support measures (ESM) and identify friend or foe (IFF) is becoming an integral part of target tracking for air picture compilation and advanced air defence applications. In the past, tracking and classification problems were treated independently; here we develop a framework for treating these seemingly disparate problems in a joint probabilistic framework. We provide recursive relations for propagating and updating the joint density of target state and class, for which a numerical solution is in general required
