Abstract :
The aim of this paper is to present a transient stability index which can be used for on-line security assessment of power systems by providing a measure for their level of security. This index is constructed applying a computational technique described in the paper and based on the principles of the pattern recognition and fuzzy sets theory. The results that can be obtained from the application of the developed index in the transient stability evaluation of power systems are illustrated by the analysis of a sample transmission system.
