Abstract :
The employment of a high precision femtosecond frequency comb for the tunable generation of ultra-high quality millimeter and THz waves is proposed and demonstrated. The line widths of the generated waves are below 1Hz and a phase noise of -100 dBc/Hz at an offset of 10 kHz from the carrier. The method is based on highly-selective filtering of two comb lines, through stimulated Brillouin scattering amplification and the polarization pulling that is associated with it. Lastly, the generated 100 GHz carrier is successfully modulated at 40 Gbd/s rate.
